Raphael’s Chapel

Kneeling by the candle light,
Eyes half closed, head bent low,
Final prayer Raphael will hear;
For I shall visit this shrine no more.

The halo glimmers ever more brightly,
Hymns I hear from corners four,
I clutch those memories close to heart;
Never to return, tonight I go.

Gratitude for the words of comfort,
In these drops of tears I pour,
Obliged I am for the blissful shelter;
Tonight I leave to the field of war.

Stifling sobs, that force their way,
I have reaped what I’ve never sown,
With a silent prayer- forgiveness I beg;
On Raphael’s chapel I close the door.
